Moot charity helps during lockdown
During the national lockdown, this organisation did not stop in their efforts to help people in the area.
An organisation of the Moot was working around the clock to assist people in need throughout the national lockdown.
Doulos in Codonia Avenue is an organisation where clothes and various other donations are collected for people in need, said executive director, Johan Janse van Rensburg.
“If we have an excess of items, we sell it from our shop on the premises,” he said.
“We then use that money to pay our rent and also for other projects in the community.”
Janse van Rensburg said he took over the organisation in June last year after his father died.
“My father started the organisation about 15 or 20 years ago,” he said.
During the national lockdown, however, this organisation did not stop in their efforts to help people in the area.

“We mostly help people in squatter camps and our borders extend as far as Brits, just outside the north of Pretoria,” he said.
He said they try to give people food parcels weekly.

They also hand out other donations, such as blankets, as it becomes available.

Janse van Rensburg said donations, such as old furniture and clothes were welcome.
“When we get donations like old furniture and clothes, we sell it and use the money to buy food for people in need,” he said.
Doulos also regularly embarked on projects with the Villieria police station.
“In general, Doulos always helps us when we need help with our various projects,” said Villieria police spokesperson Captain Coba Brits.
Brits encouraged the community to bring any unwanted products to Doulos.
