North designer heading to Paris

“I am passionate about creating luxury items for my clients and I believe my mandate to produce quality products will convey an authentic sense of value,” he said.

Kagiso Mac Mashilo (27) from Mabopane, will be showcasing his designs in Paris soon.

His designer label, House Melerine Rose has been selected to go to Paris Fashion Week next year.

Mashilo will get the opportunity to share the stage with other talented designers from all over the globe at the prestigious runway show, which includes fashion media A-listers such as Vogue, Harper’s Bazaar magazine and E-News.

Mashilo said he is excited about the opportunity to present his work abroad.

“I am feeling enthusiastic to change the narrative about Africa,” said Mashilo.

His passion to design clothes started seven years ago.

“I am passionate about creating luxury items for my clients and I believe my mandate to produce quality products will convey an authentic sense of value,” he said.

“The journey has been so challenging because of my fantasy vision and dream but throughout my past I am thankful I have learned so much about leadership and taking responsibility.”

Mashilo focuses on Haute Couture designs that are made by hand from start to finish with high-quality, expensive fabric.

“My collection will be themed The deepest, darkest, tears of the Atlantic Ocean,” he said.

At the moment he does not have enough funding to cover his trip which includes visa, flights and accommodation.

Mashigo motivated upcoming local designers to never be discouraged by their situations at home.

“No matter the circumstances of your environment, use what you have and allow your mind to travel,” said Mashilo

“Most importantly, teamwork is essential in the sphere of art” he added.
