Eldoraigne residents without water as weekend approaches

Eldoraigne residents have been without water since Friday morning, due to a burst water pipe.

Tshwane metro said it was aware of the problem.

Former councillor of the area Cindy Billson said about 4 000 households had been affected by the water outage.

“This has affected six medical suites, dental practices, an old age home, a municipal clinic and two Alzheimer’s care facilities, and is particularly worrying as the weekend approaches,” she said.

“With the current coronavirus crisis, water is a critical necessity for all businesses and households.”

Resident Nadine du Toit said she tried reporting the matter to the metro but had no luck getting through to the call centre.

“I think this was due to the fact that the workers are on strike because we are not able to get through to the metro, therefore, we are not able to get any assistance.

“We are worried that we might just sit without water the whole weekend. We hope those in authority can assist us quickly because the children are at home the whole day, and constantly need food and water,” she said.

“One resident that was not affected also tried to offer us some water but there are a lot of people without water, therefore, we could not really take his offer.”

Tshwane metro spokesperson Lindela Mashigo confirmed the metro knew about the water outage.

“The closure was carried out by the city’s plumbers due to a burst water pipe. The city will give progress made to repair the water pipe,” he said.

By Friday evening, Mashigo could not confirm when water would be restored.
