Power generation capacity limitations to continue

"We will update the country as soon as the supply situation changes."

Power generation capacity limitations were expected to continue for the remainder of the week, power utility Eskom said.

“While our teams are hard at work to return units to service, these generation capacity constraints are expected to persist for the rest of the week,” Eskom spokesperson Sikonathi Mantshantsha said.

This after the power utility asked the public to reduce their use of electricity.

“Four generation units at the Tutuka power station have suffered breakdowns over the past few days, which has added to the capacity constraints,” he said.

These constraints were worsened by the unavailability of three non-commercial units at the Kusile and Medupi power stations.

Long-term outages at the Camden power station were said to have also added to the constraints.

“We will update the country as soon as the supply situation changes,” he said.

Mantshantsha further said they requested assistance from members of the public in reducing demand, so they could supply the country during the peak demand period, which was mostly in the evenings.
