Robbers target Moot fried chicken outlets
When the cashier went to the back of the store, one of them jumped over the counter to open the drawer.
Police are investigating a case of attempted robbery at two KFC outlets in the Moot area.
In a time frame of about 20 minutes, suspects attempted to rob KFC Queenswood as well KFC in Stormvoël Road on Monday evening.
The first attack occurred at Queenswood around 19:45 where two suspects entered the store.
Video footage made available to Rekord shows two suspects – one wearing an orange and red shirt and the other a brown jacket and a cap – entering the shop.
They did not immediately place an order.

“Eventually, they ordered chicken wings. As soon as the cashier went to the kitchen to place their order, they jumped over the counter and opened the tills,” said Wayne Lamprecht shop manager at KFC Queenswood.
“The tills were empty at the time, as a similar incident had happened just a month ago when four suspects entered the store. Three of them jumped over the counter.
“The suspects ran to the back of the shop where they grabbed a till. Luckily it was empty,” said Lamprecht.
Later on Monday evening this week, two men entered the KFC in Stormvoël Road at the corner of Anna Wilson Street shortly after 20:00.
They ordered 24 chicken wings.
Also when the cashier went to the back of the store, one of them jumped over the counter to open the drawer.
The till was also empty.
“The cashier saw what was happening and ran to the control room to press the panic button and managed to phone the police,” said store manager Lufuno Mutheiwoi.

“A customer in the drive-thru lane saw what was happening and followed the suspects to Mamelodi. He, unfortunately, lost them in the area,” she said.
“The shop is situated near a Sasol garage. The garage nowadays close at 20:00. It thus makes us a soft target as there is little movement that time of night,” said Mutheiwoi.
In both cases, the suspects escaped in a white Quantum bakkie.
Villieria police spokesperson Captain Coba Brits said investigations were ongoing.
“If anyone might have more information on the suspects they must phone Villieria police.”
