Local soccer star remembers his roots
“The idea of Mambush foundation came from my kids after I told them how the community raised me to become the person I am today.”
Well-known former Mamelodi Sundowns soccer legend Daniel “Mambush” Mudau and his family donated food parcels and sports kits to locals at the weekend.
The donation was made during the official launch of the Daniel Mambush Mudau foundation in Mamelodi East on Sunday.
Mudau said the idea of starting the foundation was first floated by his daughter Lerato and son Dimpho.
“We donated 20 food parcels to families within the area where I grew up,” said Mudau.
“I told my children how I grew up and how the community helped me when I had no food.”
He said there were about 60 families in the area he grew up in, and he planned to donate food to all of them.

“We started with the first 20 families and next month, it will be another 20 until everyone has received food.”
Mudau encouraged the local soccer and netball teams he donated playing kits too, to continue keeping the community children busy.
He said the youth were the future leaders of the country “and we must just give them a helping to reach their dreams”.
His daughter Lerato (25) said the idea of starting the foundation was to show appreciation to community members for helping her father and supporting him when he was growing up.
“They played a role big role in my father’s life and the foundation is a token of appreciation for what they have done for him.
“My father is an icon and a soccer legend today and had a great impact on the community. The donations are part of giving back to say thank you,” said Lerato.
Lerato and Dimpho said the stories their father told them about how the community helped him gave them the idea to start the foundation to help the community.

“We also wanted to celebrate and honour our father for the great work he is doing for the community,” Lerato said, adding that the foundation was supposed to start before lockdown and it would continue after the lockdown period.
“We would like to see Mambush Mudau foundation growing and helping other community members in and around Mamelodi,” Lerato said.
The parcels donated to the families would last about a month. It included essentials like hand sanitisers, maize meal and tinned food.
The launch of the foundation was also attended by Mamelodi Sundowns’ supporters’ branch.
