City centre to get Covid-19 testing, screening site
Two other sites were expected to be launched during this and next week.
A Covid-19 testing and screening site was expected to be launched by the Tshwane metro in partnership with provincial health department at the Bloed Street mall on Tuesday.
The metro has ventured to target and curb the spread of the virus at identified hotspot areas in the capital.
“This site will be operational daily, from 08:00 to 15:00 at the mall for 20 days,” Tshwane metro spokesperson Selby Bokaba said.
The metro’s ward-based Covid-19 outreach campaign formed part of an operational plan aimed at raising awareness about the pandemic along with testing and screening as many people as possible in the metro’s seven regions.
“So far, the city has conducted screening and testing in most of the identified hotspots in all the seven regions and will continue to re-visit some of the areas as and when the need arises,” he said.
“The ward-based plan is done in conjunction with sister departments such as [the] health department, Tshwane metro police department, office of the mayor, office of the speaker, housing and human settlements department, community and social development services department, economic development and spatial planning department, group communication, marketing and events and external partners such as taxi associations, malls and shopping centres.”
