Police arrest almost 40 suspects over weekend

Some of the arrests include non-compliance with national lockdown measures.

Police apprehended 39 suspects for various crimes over the weekend, recovering stolen vehicles and laptops.

The operation was held in seven policing areas that included Silverton, Pretoria Moot, Brooklyn, Garsfontein, Villieria, Lyttelton and Sunnyside.

Pretoria Moot police spokesperson Captain Anton Breedt said that the arrests followed various actions by police and other law-enforcement agencies.

It included actions such as stop-and-searches, roadblocks, crime prevention operations, sector policing and enforcing regulation under the disaster management act.

“Suspects were arrested for crimes like assaults under domestic violence act, business robbery, common robbery, violations of protection orders, possession of stolen motor vehicle, reckless and negligent driving, shoplifting, possession of dagga and drugs,” Breedt said.

“Some of these arrests included non-compliance with lockdown measures.

“The arrested suspects will appear in the Pretoria magistrate’s court and Hatfield court,” he concluded.
