Foundation provides warmth for flood victims

The Give Glory to God Foundation made the generous donation of clothes to women and children on Women’s Day.

A local outreach programme handed over clothes to families affected by a flood in Mamelodi this week.

The Give Glory to God foundation made the generous donation of clothes to mostly women and children on Women’s Day.

Rhodah Mashaba of the foundation said the donation was in celebration of women.

However, she said the idea of collecting clothes for the victims came when the founder of the foundation, Leoba Mashaba saw floods hitting informal settlement residents in Mamelodi and Nellmapius.

“We felt we needed to go and see the flood victims and donate clothes to them.”

Rhodah said due to unforeseen circumstances, they were unable to get there until 9 August.

The handover took place at Mooiplaats where the Tshwane metro was busy relocating the flood victims.

The metro announced the relocation process started last month and it is in phase one.

Rhodah said the donations was also a way of building a relationship and encouraging the residents not to give up.

“We were able to celebrate Women’s Day with the women and children in the area, trying to give them something to smile about,” she said.

“We were given a warm welcome and we adhered to the Covid-19 rules of wearing a face mask,” she added.

The Give Glory to God Foundation is a non-profit organization that was founded in January 2017 by Leoba Mashaba in memory of her son who passed away in September 2016.

“Named after her late son, Thapiwa Mashaba who always said when he gave people things, ‘Don’t thank me, give glory to God!’, said Rhodah.

The foundation has visited various places such as orphanages, community centres and less-fortunate communities to give clothes and or food.

The flood victims welcomed the generous donation from The Give Glory to God Foundation.

Rhodah concluded that this was not a once-off visit and that they were planning to come back and donate food parcels.
