Veld fire almost destroys Pretoria Dog Rescue

No one was injured during the fire, and all dogs are safe and sound.

A veld fire in Centurion this week spread to a nearby animal shelter, putting the lives of the animals at risk.

The dogs of the Pretoria Dog Rescue (PDR) in Centurion had to be taken to safety on Tuesday afternoon.

One of the shelters, which is home to the four-legged-animals, had to be evacuated when a fire started close to the animal shelter just before 14:00.

PDR spokesperson Reinette le Roux said the fire was only brought under control about five hours later.

“We managed to extinguish the last flames at 19:30,” said Le Roux.

“No one was injured during the fire, and all the dogs are safe and sound.

“At this stage, we have limited access to water due to the water pipes that melted due to the fire.”

People from as far as Clubview and Midrand came and helped to get the dogs to safety.

“Thank you to all the amazing angels that came to help.

“From all the Pretoria Dog Rescue fur babies and all-out volunteers we thank you for all your love and support,” Le Roux concluded.
