Suspected Moot armed robbers arrested

The armed notorious silver polo gang have been reportedly harassing the community of the Moot since the beginning of August.

The hard work of various law enforcement agencies, including police and local CPF, saw two suspected armed robbers arrested in connection with the alleged notorious silver VW Polo gang.

Members of the gang have reportedly been harassing the community of the Moot since the beginning of August.

Hercules CPF vice-chairperson Ricky Louw said they were made aware of the gang targeting the community of Hercules on 3 August.

“CPF immediately deployed extra patrols during day and night, leading to the arrest of the suspects on Tuesday evening,” Louw said.

The two suspects have been linked to various armed robberies in the Moot area in Hercules, Atteridgeville, Danville and in the west of Pretoria.

Hercules residents reported the suspected armed robbers to be travelling in a silver/grey VW Polo.

Hercules police spokesperson Captain Bonginkosi Msimango said two suspects aged 19 and 24 would appear in the Pretoria magistrate’s court soon.

Msimango said the operation was led by the station commander Colonel Christina Tsoaedi following a series of armed robbery incidents reported in the previous months in relation to two or three suspects driving in a VW Polo and armed with a rifle.

“The operation was executed by visible policing and detectives under her command on Wednesday, 12 August. During the operation, a silver grey VW Polo, matching the description of the wanted vehicle was spotted in Hercules.”

Msimango said a chase ensued which led police to Pretoria West where the suspects were cornered. “Two suspects were arrested but one fled on foot and is still at large.”

He said a Tango One air gun, an air gun without description, nine cellphones, USB, car break-in equipment, keys, chargers and an amount of R840 were found on the suspects.

Community crime activist Eric Cordier said that the car chase started in Hercules and ended in Rose-Etta and Vom Hagen streets, Pretoria West.

“Hercules police were on the scene and shooting did take place but I’m not sure as to who got shot. One of the three suspects escaped on foot,” said Cordier.

Roy Rademeyer of Exec Ops Protection, applauded the teamwork of the various stakeholders that led to the successful arrest.
