‘Pebble hunt’ brightens golfers and children’s faces
"It is an awesome idea to spread these pebbles in these difficult times. The message we want to communicate is to add sunshine to darkness."
Residents of Woodhill Country Club are on the lookout for painted pebbles with messages of hope as part of a local initiative.
Celeste Divall initiated #PretoriaEastRocks.

“It is an awesome idea to spread these pebbles in these difficult times. The message we want to communicate is to add sunshine to the darkness,” said Divall.

Abigail Divall found her first pebble, of a colourful snake on the fourth green.
Rosa Schoeman, who has four grandchildren, can’t wait to take them for a walk in search of a pebble.

“Everyone started hiding pebbles and painting rocks. It became a great culture and created so much excitement in the country club during the lockdown period,” she said.

“The kids started searching for pebbles on the walkways. Even adults who go for an afternoon walk, search for these beautiful painted pebbles.”

Even the golfers take them home to their children, to re-hide them.
Lawrence Matthee said the only reason why he was playing golf nowadays, was to find beautiful stones like these.

Residents post their pebbles on Woodhill Residents Forum – from painted pebbles of minions, a rainbow heart, a unicorn, and even a painted picture of the legendary Jedi Master, Yoda.
