Superport United to kick off MTN title defence later this month
This week, the PSL Chairman Irvin Khoza announced the 2020/21 season commencement dates at the league’s headquarters in Parktown, Johannesburg.
Supersport United will kick off their MTN 8 title defence in three weeks’ time against newcomers Tshakhuma Tsha Madzivhandila (TTM).
The reigning MTN8 champions finished fifth last season, which meant they were supposed to automatically play a team that finished in fourth place (Bidvest Wits) on the Premier Soccer League (PSL) table.
In June Bidvest Wits confirmed that their franchise will be sold to TTM, who will now ply their trade in the PSL and not in the National First Division (NFD).
This week, the PSL Chairman Irvin Khoza announced the 2020/21 season commencement dates at the league’s headquarters in Parktown, Johannesburg.
He said the first day of the 2020/21 season will be on Saturday, 17 October 2020 and the new season will kick off with the MTN8.

United and Mamelodi Sundowns will be in action on that weekend as they both finished in the top 8.
This will be followed by the newly-launched DStv Premiership, scheduled to kick off on 24 October 2020.
The chairman said the league was already engaging with various stakeholders, including government, SAFA and other interested parties in preparation for kicking off the season.
“We are currently waiting for the new directives from government. I would like to thank the Minister of Sport, Arts and Culture, Mr Nathi Mthethwa, SAFA and our sponsors for their cooperation in this process,” Khoza said.
