Mams children receive necessities

Clothes, footwear and toiletries were successfully distributed to over 120 children from a disadvantaged background.

A total of 127 children in Mamelodi received donations of clothes, footwear and toiletries from a church congregation and local community last week Sunday.

These items were successfully distributed to children from a disadvantaged background.

The generous donations were made by Mamelodi Central Methodist Church congregation in Mamelodi West, Section D5 and community.

Church member Cheryl Modise said this formed part of the church campaign called ‘Dress-a-Child Campaign’ with the assistance of The Dr. Pashy Foundation.

The campaign also offers free extra lessons on Saturday mornings to learners between grades RR and 9 in the community of Mamelodi since the beginning of 2019.

They provide additional lessons aimed at helping learners perform better at school, particularly those learners that have fallen behind the rest of the class in the subjects of English and mathematics at their respective schools.

“The Woman’s Fellowship members took centre stage in donating clothing, shoes, stationery as well as volunteering their services to facilitate the distribution of the items to our children,” said Modise.

“On behalf of the Mamelodi Central Methodist Church, the pastor, the teachers, and the entire congregation, we would like to express our sincere gratitude to everyone who made this a success.”

Modise also thanked The Dr. Pashy Foundation and the Woman’s Fellowship organisation who worked tirelessly to make sure that they put a smile on each and every child who received the donations.

She said she believe they have contributed immensely in touching the lives of “our future leaders”.

“We look forward to a joint collaborating exercise again in the near future.

“To facilitate quality learning and to create a fulfilling and exciting learning experience for our children, we invite organisations, the government and ordinary individuals to become involved.”

She said they welcome donations towards any of the following: an equipped learning centre, books, stationery and other learning aids.

Modise concluded by pleading with the public to start investing in the future of this country with any donation that will keep the children busy and looking forward to attend more Saturday classes.
