North cops concerned over surge in GBV
Most recently, two women were shot and killed in two separate incidents.
Akasia police are concerned at the recent killing of women in their precinct after a second woman was gunned down in the area last week.
The 27-year-old woman was allegedly shot and killed by her lover at the Park Crescent residential complex in The Orchards last Wednesday.
“The Akasia police are concerned about the rapid increase of these cases despite recent awareness initiatives,” police spokesperson Constable Lindiwe Mdluli said.
“The police were alerted to last Wednesday’s shooting and responded swiftly.
“Upon arrival, they discovered the woman was shot in her upper body.

“The boyfriend, alleged to have been the shooter, also shot himself in the upper body.”
Emergency services declared the woman dead at the scene. The boyfriend succumbed to his injuries on arrival at a nearby hospital.
“A murder case has been opened at Akasia SAPS for further investigation,” Mdluli said.
The 27-year-old’s murder comes just weeks after another woman’s body was found along the Magalies mountain range, near Amandasig, with a bullet wound to the left side of her head.
At the time of the discovery of her body, Akasia police’s spokesperson Sergeant Matsobane Mabusela said the woman was reportedly kidnapped after she and her husband stopped on the roadside along the R80 Mabopane highway while on their way to Mabopane.
Meanwhile, provincial police spokesperson Captain Mavela Masondo condemned the recent circulation of a video showing the dead 27-year-old lying alongside her boyfriend.

“The public is urged to immediately stop the circulation and distribution of this video clip as images.
“The random recording and circulating of the content of this nature for no constructive reason is not only reckless and insensitive to the relatives and close associates of the deceased, but could also jeopardise and compromise the outcome of the police investigation,” Masondo said.
Letting agent for the 27-year-old’s apartment Zelri Properties extended their condolences to her family.
“Words can’t express how saddened we are to hear of the incident and death of your family member who was also our valued tenant.
“Please accept our deepest condolences for the family’s loss,” principal Ingrid van Biljon said.
Park Crescent managing agent, the Pretor Group said the boyfriend gained entry into the residential complex through the disabled biometric recognition turnstile gate being switched off to mitigate the spread of Covid-19.
“This was used to gain entry to the complex and the security provider can confirm this,” portfolio manager Bayanda Ncongwane said.
