Rietgat holds GBV awareness campaign
”We encourage every member of the community to come forward and report this social ill. Speak out and help us nip this scourge in the bud."
Rietgat police embarked on an awareness campaign at the Tshwane metro building in block KK, Soshanguve, on Tuesday. Captain Stephen Maluleka said the campaign was primarily aimed at addressing the rampant scourge of gender-based violence and femicide (GBVF).
Light was also shed on the recent spate of robberies in the township. The scourge has notably been a thorn in the flesh across the length and breadth of South Africa where it is addressed in every platform of government amidst the Covid-19 pandemic.

During the campaign over 100 pamphlets were distributed. Residents also voiced their thoughts. Lucas Mabena from block P distanced himself from heinous crimes perpetrated by “sick” men.
“I am not going to be associated with ‘sick’ men who cannot resolve their domestic problems by talking with their partners,” said Mabena.
Rietgat police station commander Colonel Stephina Nkosi implored the public to report any signs of gender-based violence.
“We encourage every member of the community to come forward and report this social ill.”
“Speak out and help us nip this scourge in the bud.”
Maluleka said the community also benefited from services such as certifying of documents and issuing of affidavits.
