The Waterkloof air force base has reached out to the less fortunate in an effort to make a difference in the community.
The base visited the Kekana Village in Hammanskraal on Friday, to donate clothing, blankets and firewood.
“The aim of this outreach was to motivate and support those in need in its sphere of operations. To give them hope and make a difference in their lives in these difficult circumstances,” said Colonel A Smith.
“The base under the supervision of Chaplain C Barends wanted to make a difference in their lives, firstly, by donating wood to the elderly in the community.”

Trucks filled with wood from the base drove through the community making deliveries to the neediest community members.
The donated clothing and blankets were collected by the Baptist Church in the area which after which teams departed to the Tender Loving Care old age home to hand them over.
“The old age home was severely affected by Covid-19 the past six months, with several deaths and 27 staff members not getting paid,” Smith said.
As a form of assistance, the base provided each employee with a food parcel.
Food hampers were also donated to help sustain the old age home.
Each of the 23 residents of the old age home received a dignity bag consisting of toiletries.
“The base erected washing lines for the old age home and provided draught boards for their recreation,” said Smith.

Smith said even though AFB Waterkloof was a highly operational base it still showed patriotism and loyalty in being a military of the people, which led to the event being a huge success.
