Fallen metro cop laid to rest

“The cause of the accident is unknown at this stage.”

The off-duty Tshwane metro police department officer, who was killed in a collision with a bus last week, was laid to rest on Monday. Sergeant Eduard Sirakis was killed last Wednesday when his vehicle collided head-on with an A Re Yeng bus around 16:00 at the corner of Paul Kruger Street and Mansfield Avenue. “He passed away at the scene. He was laid to rest today (Monday),” metro police spokesperson Senior Superintendent Isaac Mahamba said. The driver of the bus and four passengers were taken to hospital. ALSO READ: “There is no billing crisis in the metro,” says Tshwane metro “The cause of the accident is unknown at this stage,” Mahamba said, adding that a culpable homicide docket was opened for investigation. “Tshwane metro police department is very saddened to lose one of its hard-working members,” Mahamba said. “We wish to send heartfelt condolences to his family, friends and colleagues.” Sirakis was a member of the special operations unit at the time of his passing. Meanwhile, police spokesperson Constable Mandlakayise Zwane confirmed they were investigating a culpable homicide docket. “We are currently awaiting post mortem results,” Zwane said.
