SuperSport to open their season this weekend
United captain Ronwen Williams excited to see young players in the mix.
SuperSport United will kick off their season against new side Tshakhuma Tsha Madzivhandila this Saturday in the MTN8 encounter.
United will be going into this big match with a few new faces they have roped in to beef up the squad for the new DStv premiership.
The Pretoria-side recently returned from their pre-season camp in Polokwane where new players got introduced into the SuperSport United setup.
United captain Ronwen Williams said the players were ready for the new season.
“We focused on our structure and the way we want to play, we all are on the same page now and the fitness levels are very good, and we ready for our first match. We have secured very good signings, combination of experience and youngsters, they will definitely add value to the team,” he said.
“Myself and George Chigova have a good relationship and he will definitely add quality and experience in our goalkeeping department.”

The skipper said that the young players who recently got promoted to the first team felt at home.
“They are talented but what stands out is their will to want to learn and improve. Our head coach gave a lot of youngsters a chance and they have done very well, the future is definitely bright, we should know that we haven’t had any match practice in over a month and the players put in a good shift,” Williams said.
The 28-year-old shot-stopper recently led Bafana Bafana against Namibia in a 1-all draw.
“Leading Bafana Bafana for the first time was a dream come true for me, it was such an honour to lead the team, I’m one of the guys that’s been part of the setup for the longest time and I appreciate the coach for showing faith in me,” he said.
“I didn’t know how to feel, it only sunk in later on in the day, but it was the best feeling, one I can’t describe,” Williams added.
Williams has also worked with familiar faces in the national side and is optimistic that the future looks bright for Bafana.
“It’s also wonderful working with a familiar face and I’ve got huge respect for Coach Kwanele Kopo who is in the national team setup, it’s wonderful for the club to have players and coaches who came through our academy and now representing the national team.”
