Pretoria Central police conducted an operation that led to the closure of liquor outlets and the arrest of two suspects for possession of a stolen motor vehicle on Thursday.
Police spokesperson Captain Augutinah Selepe said, the inner CBD and Marabastad areas were identified to enhance crime prevention awareness, eradicate crimes conducted from bad buildings and compliance of the disaster management act,
“During the patrol, police spotted a suspicious vehicle driven at a high speed. They stopped the vehicle. During the search it was found that the ignition and dashboard of the vehicle were damaged,” she said.

During the police’s preliminary investigation at the scene, the vehicle was positively linked to a hijacking case in Hatfield, Selepe said.
“The two suspects, aged 33 and 36, were arrested and will appear in court on 16 October.”
Selepe said the investigation was ongoing to see if they can link the suspects to other cases.
The operation continued with inspection of second-hand goods, food outlets and liquor outlets.
“Three liquor outlets were closed for illicit liquor and contravention of the Gauteng liquor board,” Selepe said.
She said two restaurants were closed for non-compliance to the health act. Fines were issued for non-compliance of the second-hand goods act and liquor was confiscated.
Another success saw a 69-year-old nabbed for rape.
All the suspects are scheduled to appear before the Pretoria magistrate’s court soon, Selepe said.
