Two nabbed over fraud in Laudium

A liquor outlet was also closed down in an informal settlement in the neighbourhood.

Two people were arrested on a fraud charge by police in the Laudium area this week.

Spokesperson Sergeant Simon Chokoe said they had received information of a person who was in possession of equipment reportedly used to manufacture fraudulent documents.

“Officers followed up swiftly on the information provided and both suspects were cornered along 9th Avenue in Laudium,” he said.

“Following preliminary investigation, an LG screen, printers, cellphones, certificates, affidavit forms, temporary asylum seeker forms, identity documents and school reports were found and seized.”

The 34-year-old man and 30-year-old woman were arrested.

In another incident on Thursday afternoon, a liquor outlet was also reportedly closed in the Itireleng informal settlement for contravening the Gauteng liquor board regulations.

“Their liquor was also seized and the suspect, in his 30s, was arrested for selling liquor without a license,” Chokoe said.
