Centurion father fighting for his life after east shooting
Wayne Giles (55) was shot while he and his partner were on their way to The Village restaurant in Hazelwood at 16th Street on Sunday afternoon.
A Centurion man, who was shot during an attempted robbery in Hazelwood over the weekend, is still in ICU.
Wayne Giles (55) was shot while he and his partner were on their way to The Village restaurant at 16th Street on Sunday afternoon.
According to the restaurant, a suspect tried to rob Giles of a cellphone to which he resisted and gunfire ensued.
Giles was shot in the back and has since undergone extensive surgery, according to his friend Nabeel Khan.
“He underwent surgery on Sunday. Currently, he’s stable but still unconscious,” said Khan.
“I’m asking everyone now to help my friend Wayne so he can wake up. I hope to God that he pulls through.”

Khan said funds were being raised to help Giles and his family pay for medical costs.
“We would like to raise at least R160 000, which is the estimated current medical costs. Any amount of effort towards that goal helps.”
Giles’ partner Shana Stegmann described him as “generous, courageous, kind, loving, fearless and filled with grace and honour”.
“A man who has touched so many lives and continues to do so as he is loved greatly by so, so many. The extremely traumatic events have left an indelible mark on me. Wayne’s family and everyone who knows him is devastated,” she said on social media.

A Facebook group called Warrior Wayne Fund was created to raise funds for Giles.
“This group was conceived and created to raise funds which will be used to pay for Wayne’s recovery,” Stegmann said.
On Thursday afternoon, police spokesperson Captain Daniel Mavimbela said no arrests were made.
Police said anyone with information on the suspect can contact the Brooklyn police station on 012-366-1700.
