Tips for when a child goes missing:
– Stay calm.
– Quickly make sure that the child is really missing.
– Search at home, school, ask neighbours and friends.
– Rather don’t ask other children to help you look as they could also go missing.
– Immediately report it to the nearest police station. It is not necessary to wait 24 hours.
– Take along a recent photo of the child.
– Provide a full description of the child.
– Also give information about the clothes the child was wearing when he/she went missing.
– Make sure that you get a reference number, as well as the name and telephone number of the police officer who is going to handle the case.
– A reliable person must be at home to answer the telephone.

What to do when a lost child is found:
– Find out what the parents’ contact details are and contact them.
– If the child is found on the street or in a shopping centre, take him/her to the nearest police station/security office.
– Have someone remain at the place where the child was found, so the parents can be informed it they come looking for him/her.
– Always take the name and contact details of the person to whom the child is handed over.
