A 27-year-old man from Mamelodi East has been sentenced for the fatal stabbing of a 28-year-old man in 2017.

Tokyo Mojafela Magabotye was found guilty at the Pretoria high court and was sentenced to eight years with a suspended three years.

Magabotye was found guilty of stabbing Mandla Mothogoane to death with a knife at Mamelodi East, phase 1, Steve Biko.

Police spokesperson Constable Lethabo Mashiloane said the victim died on arrival at the Mamelodi regional hospital.

“Magabotye was arrested the same day,” said Mashiloane.

Mashiloane said the case was handed over to Detective Constable Moshabi Sodi who worked tirelessly until Magabotye was arrested.

“Nobody knows why the stabbing happened,” he said.

Mashiloane said the detective left no stone unturned and managed to carefully investigate the case and get justice for the victim’s family.

He further encouraged the public to help the police with any information that might help detectives solve cases.
