Heavy sentence for business robbery suspects

The court sentenced the suspects to 15 years each for armed robberies.

Two business robbery suspects, Thato Lebepe (24) and Koketso Ntuli (27) have been convicted and sentenced to 15 years’ imprisonment each, in the Cullinan magistrate’s court.

The office of Cullinan station commander applauded investigating officer Sergeant Thabo Chipa for a job well done, following the sentencing of the local business robbers.

Police spokesperson Constable Connie Moganedi said the suspects were found guilty and sentenced on 28 October.

“The suspects were arrested immediately after they robbed local shops around Refilwe and Onverwacht in Cullinan on 24 July 2017

.“The sector managers in the area responded to the complaints and chased a VW Golf getaway vehicle used by the suspects.”

She said luck was not on their side, because their vehicle got a tyre puncture and the suspects ran into the bushes where they were arrested by the police.

The case was handed over to detective Sergeant Thabo Chipa “who worked tirelessly on the case”.

“Sergeant Chipa was professional during the presentation of evidence to the court of law, which led to the sentencing of two accused,” said Moganedi.

In addition to their sentences the two accused were declared unfit to possess a firearm in terms of section 103.

Moganedi said the Cullinan police station commander committed himself to execute the mandate of the organisation which was to ensure the safety and security of all citizens including the local businessmen in his policing area.

He encouraged the public to report any suspicious looking people to the police by dialling the 08600-10111 toll-free number.
