Local police make several drug-related arrests
The 42-year-old suspect was arrested after a buyer who had been caught by police at a shopping centre led them to him.
East police have been successful in making several drug-related arrests in recent weeks.
A 41-year-old man was arrested for dealing in drugs at a complex in Menlyn last week Thursday.
The Hawks’ serious organised crime investigative unit in Germiston conducted a search and seizure operation in the area and received information on the man.
A Hawks spokesperson Captain Ndivhuwo Mulamu said the investigation team followed up on intelligence about a man selling drugs at a residential complex in Menlyn, east of Pretoria.
“Upon searching the suspect’s residence, the members seized approximately 100g of crystal meth, 100g of methcathinone, 25g of cocaine, and ecstasy tablets.”
The man was immediately taken into custody and charged for dealing in drugs.
He appeared in the Hatfield magistrate’s court last week Friday.

Two weeks ago, a 42-year-old man was arrested for dealing in drugs in Nieuw Muckleneuk.
The man was busted during a police operation at a shopping centre in the area.
“Police officers identified a man who acted suspiciously near a shopping centre in Nieuw Muckleneuk and searched him,” said police spokesperson Captain Colette Weilbach.
“Nyaope was found in his possession and he was arrested.”
The 36-year-old man from Ivory Park told the police where he bought his drugs and from whom.
Police followed up the information with the help of security officers from different companies that are part of the Brooklyn security forum.
“A nearby vacant house was searched and a man was found inside with a bag with 100 slopies of nyaope and 58 cocaine rocks.
“The 42-year-old suspect from Soshanguve was arrested straight away.”
In a separate incident in Menlo Park, near the post office, a Mamelodi man (26) was also arrested for possession of nyaope and dagga.
The trio will appear in the Hatfield community court soon on drug-related charges.
The Brooklyn station commander Brigadier Kushie Pietersen welcomed the arrests.
“Brooklyn SAPS will make the environment for drug users and dealers unbearable in the Brooklyn policing precinct,” she said.
