Decomposing body found in north river

"The body must have been there for days as it was difficult to identify the man due to its state of decomposition."

The decomposing body of a man was found in the Apies River, in the north of Pretoria on Sunday.

The body was recovered with the assistance of Tshwane divers behind a local gym in the area.

Sinoville police spokesperson Johan van Dyk said that community members made the gruesome discovery when taking a shortcut through the field.

“The body must have been there for days as it was difficult to identify the man due to its state of decomposition,” he said.

It is not yet clear what has happened to the deceased.

“We suspect that with the heavy rainfall a week ago, he might have been swept away by the flood water. We are awaiting post-mortem results to see whether the man can be identified.

“We urge the community to come forward with any information to identify the man and assist in solving the matter,” said Van Dyk.

Anyone with information may contact the investigating officer at Sinoville on 012-543-0800.
