North Corridor policewomen marked the end of 16 Days of activism for no violence against women and children by conducting roadblocks, mall patrols, and checking compliance in various shops and liquor outlets.

Captain Stephen Maluleka said more than 3 000 informative and reader-friendly pamphlets were issued to shoppers, commuters, community members and motorists.

“Our female officers took the lead to ensure that members of the public are educated about issues of gender-based violence, adherence to Covid-19 regulations and tips on a safe festive season.”

Maluleka said since Thursday was the last day of the campaign, more material and education was aligned to the gender-based violence, while some enlightened the community about abductions and keeping their homes, money, vehicles, and themselves safe during the festive season and beyond.

“About three shopping complexes, hotspots, taxi ranks, and two shebeens were visited during the operation.

“Five non-complying second-hand dealers were arrested and two suspects were apprehended for possession of dagga while a liquor outlet operating without a licence was also closed and liquor was confiscated and the owner arrested.
