Sundowns faces old enemy this weekend
The Pretoria side currently occupies the first position on the standings after following two victories.
Mamelodi Sundowns will face off against TP Mazembe this weekend in the third game of the CAF Champions League group stages.
The Pretoria side currently occupies the first position on the standings after two games following two victories over Al Hilal and CR Belouizdad.
Mazembe are yet to win a game as they have played two goalless draws in their games against CR Belouizdad and Al Hilal.
Upon arrival in the Democratic Republic of Congo, Coach Rulani Mokwena shared an update on how the team travelled and preparations for Saturday’s clash.
“We had an early flight to Lubumbashi, the environment with regards to the weather has been suitable for us as it is overcast with some showers. We expected very hot conditions but it is good for us and we going to put in the work at training,” he said on the Sundowns website.
The last time the Brazilians met TP Mazembe was in the CAF Super Cup and was won by a goal from Ricardo Nascimento and that gave Bafana BaStyle a continental double.
“They are a very interesting team and a very good team, defensively they are strong,” he said.
“We watched the last three games they played and from what we saw we know the formation they play. We just want to make sure we are ready for a team that has complex personalities.
“They can be very aggressive as they like to push their wingers and full-backs very high but they can also be conservative as they can sit in a block and play on counter-attacks.
“It will be interesting to see what personalities they will adopt as they need the three points,” Mokoena said.
