Homeowner sustains moderate burns during house fire

"The homeowner sustained moderate burns to the arms, hands, and legs and suffered smoke inhalation."

Four people were injured when a Wierda Park house caught fire on Monday afternoon.

Community emergency services CERT-SA responded to the fire in Piet Hugo Street.

According to Ruan Heyns of CERT-SA, the homeowner and security officers were busy fighting the blaze when they arrived on the scene.

“The homeowner sustained moderate burns to the arms, hands, and legs and suffered smoke inhalation.

“Three other people, including a CPF patroller and two security officers, who helped to put the fire out suffered smoke inhalation,” he said.

Two of the patients did not require further intervention.

The homeowner and one security officer were treated on the scene before being transported to the hospital by Netcare911 and Tshwane EMS in stable conditions.

“The exact circumstances leading up to the fire are not clear at this time and a fire inspector from Tshwane fire department was dispatched to the scene,” Heyns said.

Several medical and security services, Netcare911, Tshwane metropolitan fire department, Rooihuiskraal, The Reeds CPF – Wierdabrug sector 2 and CPF Wierdabrug sector 3, Fidelity ADT, Scorpion Risk Services, Monitor Net, Noordvaal Security guard division assisted on the scene.
