“Over the past two weeks, the Covid-19 infection rates at school among learners as well as teachers have increased.”

The principal of Hoërskool Waterkloof has tested positive for Covid-19 and is in hospital.

This was according to a statement by the school sent to Rekord on Friday.

According to the statement, Hoërskool Waterkloof principal Chris Denysschen was doing well “under the circumstances”.

“We are in constant contact with his family,” the statement read.

The school also announced there had been an increase in Covid-19 infections among learners and teachers over the past two weeks.

“Over the past two weeks, the Covid-19 infection rates at the school among learners as well as teachers increased,” the school said in a statement.

“Due to the increase in positive cases, many learners and teachers were placed in isolation.”

The school said it was following Covid-19 preventive measures to limit further spread of the virus.

These include reduced learners on school premises and limited sports activities.

“The school is not closed. All Covid-19 protocols are strictly followed when staff and pupils enter the site. All staff are present on-site and continue with online classes.”
