Spike trap suspect caught on N4
Two firearms were recovered when police and security chased after three suspects next to the N4, Simon Vermooten off-ramp.
Silverton police, aided by security services, caught a man suspected of being involved in spike-trap robberies on the N4 highway.
On Thursday night, police and various security companies chased after three suspects next to the highway near the Simon Vermooten off-ramp.
“We managed to catch and arrest one of the suspects,” confirmed Silverton spokesperson Warrant Officer Isaac Mculu.
“A firearm and ammunition were found in his possession.”
While the other suspects managed to escape, security services discovered another discarded firearm on the scene.
Spikes placed on the N1 and N4 to trap motorists had become a major concern in the past year.
Mculu said the suspect will appear in court soon.
