Intense car chase results in two nabbed in the north

Police reported that the suspects were arrested after a car accident and chase by security officers and police.

Two men, allegedly involved in an attempted motor vehicle theft, were arrested in the north of Pretoria after an intense chase by police and security officers.

Sinoville police spokesperson, warrant officer Johan van Dyk, said the two suspects allegedly attempted to steal a car at a local mall in Montana on Saturday.

“The suspects fled the scene with a white Lexus. Security officers gave chase which police officers joined,” he said.

“The suspects, while escaping in their getaway car, got into a single car accident where the car hit a wall and rolled.”

Van Dyk said the police arrested one suspect on the scene of the accident.

“Another suspect was arrested after the helicopter crew spotted him hiding in a garden where the accident happened.”

A manhunt has been launched for a third suspect that fled from the scene.

“The two men will appear Monday at the Pretoria north magistrate’s court, facing charges of attempted theft of a motor vehicle and being in possession of motor vehicle break-in equipment.”

Van Dyk said the police have noticed an increase in the theft of motor vehicles within the area, especially in residential areas recently.

In a statement Medi-Edge emergency services, which also responded, said the accident happened at the corner of Dr van der Merwe Rd Tand hird Rd, Montana, around 12:00.

“The suspects were checked and there were no injuries reported,” the statement read.
