Alleged forger busted in Akasia police operations

The forger was found in possession of several allegedly fraudulent documents.

An alleged official document forger was arrested during a police operation in Akasia and Pretoria North recently.

The forger was in possession of several fake documents such as a pathological report document as well as fake medical receipts, seven birth certificates, nine pay-slips, a bank statement and four asylum documents, according to police spokesperson Captain Matthews Nkoadi.

Nkoadi said two laptops that were believed to have been used in the production of the fraudulent documentation were also seized.

“The suspect could not give a reasonable account for possessing such documents,” he said.

Further investigations were expected to be carried out to establish whether the suspect could be linked to other fraud and forgery cases.

More than 260 people were arrested during police operations across Pretoria at the weekend, police said.

Nkoadi said arrests were executed through surveillance activities, stop-and-searches and follow-ups on information from intelligence sources.

Suspects faced the following charges: possession of the suspected stolen property, assault GBH, malicious damage to property, fraud, dealing in drugs, possession of unlicensed firearms, attempted murder, contravention of the disaster management act, theft, dealing in liquor, drunken driving and illegal immigration.

In other operations, he said varying quantities of liquor and drugs were also seized along with two knives and syringes.

“About 34 road traffic fines to the value of R119 110 were issued to road traffic offenders by members of the Gauteng traffic and metro police,” Nkoadi said.

He said seven more people were warned for not wearing a mask while 447 people and 220 vehicles were also searched.

“The police are working around the clock in maximising the efforts to reduce the levels of crime and bringing the perpetrators thereof to justice.”

All those arrested were expected to appear in various courts soon.
