Negotiations ongoing after alleged arrest of Tshwane bus driver
Drivers went on strike on Wednesday reportedly in solidarity of a colleague who was arrested for a traffic infringement earlier this week.

Negotiations between striking Tshwane Bus Service (TBS) drivers and the metro were still ongoing, as bus services were suspended for the third consecutive day on Friday.
Drivers went on strike on Wednesday reportedly in solidarity with a colleague who was arrested for a traffic infringement earlier this week.
Tshwane Metro spokesperson Selby Bokaba said it was still proceeding with negotiations as Thursday’s talks were unfruitful.
Bokaba said all the employees involved in the illegal strike, mostly bus drivers, would face “punishment for violating the rules”.
“We are going to institute disciplinary proceedings against all the employees involved in the illegal strike.”
The decision comes after the employees abandoned their duties without notifying management nor giving specific reasons for their actions.
Metro top management spoke to workers involved in the bus strike at TBS headquarters on Wednesday morning.
This after receiving a report about the possible causes of the strike and how to resolve it.
Talks, however, did not yield any positive results.
“Subsequently, an ultimatum to return to work was issued to those involved, instructing them to resume their duties with immediate effect or face the consequences of their actions.”
He said the notice period expired on Thursday at 16:00.
Bokaba said the metro would also immediately implement the “no work, no pay” rule against the striking employees.

He apologised for the inconvenience experienced by commuters.
“The metro is doing everything in its power to normalise the situation.”
Bokaba said commuters should expect the bus service to remain suspended until disputes were resolved.
“We urge customers to make alternative travel arrangements.”
