Bulk water, sewer service installations planned
"These projects will provide a significant improvement in the living standards of these communities."
Several bulk and internal water and sewer service installations were planned for informal settlements in several parts of Tshwane as part of the metro’s plans for the year.
This was announced by mayor Randall Williams during his State of the Capital Address last week.
He said some of the noteworthy projects included:
– Construction of bulk water and sewers and a water and sewer reticulation network for 1 660 stands at the Rama City Mega Project, north of Pretoria.
– Construction of water and sewer network to benefit 538 families in Mabopane extension 12, north of Pretoria.
– Construction of bulk water and sewers, as well as a reticulation network to support 2 776 households as part of the upgrading of informal settlements programme in Hammanskraal West extension 10, also north of Pretoria.
– Construction of water and sewer reticulation services to 1 051 stands in Phomolong in Mamelodi extension 6, east of Pretoria.
– Construction of a water and sewer reticulation network to support phase 1 of 200 housing units at the Nellmapius Willows Mega Project, east of Pretoria.
– Construction of a sewer network as part of the upgrading of informal settlements partnership grant for about 358 stands in Nellmapius extension2, north of Pretoria.
Williams said these were some of the metro’s endeavours to effectively extend services to these areas.
“These projects will provide a significant improvement in the living standards of these communities,” he said.
“The projects would enhance safety and improve the access which these communities had to basic services as the metro recognised how important it was to uphold the dignity of those who resided in informal areas.”
