Mamelodi regional hospital officially opens renovated wards and units
"These newly renovated wards and units will surely improve the patient experience of care, reducing waiting time to ensure patient satisfaction."
Mamelodi regional hospital opened a newly renovated accident and emergency unit, neonatal ward and a new CT scan unit last week.
“These services will surely improve patients’ experience by reducing waiting time,” said health MEC Nomathemba Mokgethi at the official reopening last Friday.
Mokgethi was accompanied by the hospital’s CEO Dr Soe and hospital management at the ceremony.

“We are here to acknowledge and take pride in the exceptional work, that speaks volumes to the overall transformation of essential and quality healthcare services in and around Mamelodi,” she said.
“The installation of the new CT scan in the radiology department is a huge step in the right direction.”
Previously, patients requiring CT scans would be transferred to a central hospital accompanied by nurses.
This in turn reduced the number of nurses in the hospital and compromised the quality of patient care.
“But this new scanner help the doctors to make a quicker diagnosis and reducing the length of stays at the hospital.”

The scanner would also relieve pressure at Steve Biko Academic hospital since no patients will be referred there from now on.
In addition, the casualty unit has been transformed with more hospital beds and a dedicated area for children.
The neonatal unit also has more beds while the ICU now has additional equipment procured, including five ventilators, seven non-invasive ventilators and two body-cooling machines.
“These developments will help reduce overcrowding, reduce risk of infections and reduce patient grievances.”
Hospital CEO Dr Soe said the hospital’s patients were entitled to the best healthcare possible.
“No patients or staff will suffer under my watch,” said Dr Soe.
Local resident Peter Ngobeni (45) said services at the hospital have improved and patients had no reason to complain anymore.
“In the past, patients complained about having to wait for hours to get medical attention but that is a thing of the past now,” he said.
“The hospital has improved thanks to the new wards.”
