‘Intense’ cold front to hit Pretoria by Friday

SA Weather said the cold front will be accompanied by rain in some areas.

Pretoria residents are warned to brace for a cold snap that is expected to sweep the country this weekend.

SA Weather forecaster Venicia Phakula said the cold front will be accompanied by rain in some areas.

“The cold front will make landfall in the Western Cape early on Friday, and will move over into Gauteng by Friday evening,” she said.

Warm and sunny conditions are expected for Wednesday and Thursday.

“Temperatures will reach a high of 29°C for today and then tomorrow, we looking at a maximum of 26°C.”

Phakula said rainfall was expected on Friday and Saturday.

“From Friday onwards, we’ll see a significant drop in temperatures in Pretoria. There’s a 30% chance of rain with a maximum of 19°C.”

Cold conditions will persist throughout Saturday with a peak of 20°C.

Phakula said no rain was predicted for Sunday, but temperatures will remain in the low 20s.

As winter approaches, Tshwane emergency services spokesperson Charles Mabaso warned residents to be extra vigilant when using heating devices.
