Two armed men arrested during robbery in CBD
“In the shootout, one suspect was shot and wounded. He was taken to hospital under police guard where he is in a stable condition.”
Two armed men, aged 43 and 30, were arrested by police in Boom Street in Marabastad in the Pretoria CBD during a business robbery on Wednesday afternoon.
Central police spokesperson Captain Augustinah Selepe said it was the swift response by officers of Pretoria Central SAPS that led to the successful arrest of the suspects.
Selepe said late in the afternoon three men armed with firearms entered a supermarket in Boom Street.
“The men pointed a gun at and threatened the shop owner, assaulted staff members and demanded cash and cellphones.”
She said the Pretoria Central patrol vehicle was alerted and swiftly responded to the scene.
Selepe said the suspects spotted the police and fired at them.
“In the shootout, one suspect was shot and wounded. He was taken to hospital under police guard where he is in a stable condition.”
While a second suspect was arrested, the third one managed to escape with an undisclosed amount of money and cellphones.

Police confiscated two firearms and ammunition.
She said the firearms will be taken for ballistic assessment to establish whether they were used in other crimes.
The two arrested suspects will appear in court for business robbery, assault, possession of an unlicensed firearm and possession of ammunition.
“Investigation is ongoing in this case.”
Pretoria Central SAPS Brigadier Moses Dladla commended the policemen on their quick response.
