Shots fired as duo nabbed for attempted housebreaking in the east
One suspect was shot and another was caught further down the road.
Two men were arrested for attempted housebreaking in the east of Pretoria on Friday morning.
Fidelity ADT security responded to a community radio network alert about an attempted house break-in on Lukas Street in Lukasrand, east of Pretoria around 10:00.
“Our team responded to an alert on a community radio network where a resident reported that there were three suspects tampering with her gate and trying to gain access to the property,” said ADT district manager Leon Muller.
“One of the residents, who is also on the community radio network, came to assist and confronted the suspects,” Muller said.
“During the confrontation, ADT officers rushed to the scene but the suspects fired shots at them on arrival. “The suspects fired more than six shots and three of our officers fired back where one of the three suspects was shot,” Muller said.
“A second suspect was caught further down the road near the Telkom towers, while a third managed to get away,” he said. Two suspects were apprehended and handed over to Brooklyn SAPS.
“This illustrates the importance of neighbours working together and what a strong deterrent active patrolling is against criminal activity. Knowing your neighbour’s routines and being aware of their movements will increase your chances of noticing when something is amiss,” said Muller.
