Mr and Miss Ga-Rankuwa 2021 pageant a success

The second annual Mr and Miss Ga-Rankuwa 2021 pageant recently took place in an attempt to inspire the youth of the area.
The initiative was founded by Tsietsi Mathibedi through the organisation Minding the Gap in 2018, and formally held its first pageant in 2019.
Mathibedi said the beauty pageant that focused on uplifting the community, mentoring and grooming young people from an early age, and shifting the focus and mindset of young people from things like substance abuse and teenage pregnancy.
“What excites me the most about this pageant is that it takes young people away from the streets, at the same time inspiring them to become responsible citizens of the country.”
Mathibedi said on the day of the event, they had drama plays by contestants under the following topics (GBV, LGBTQI and human trafficking) as well as performances by local talented individuals.
“The winners signed a contract of one year with the organisation Minding The Gap to serve for the community until the next group is crowned.”
Mr Ga-Rankuwa Oreneile Mosupyoe said he was very excited to learn that he had won the competition.

“I never thought that I could win this because of all the pressure that came with the competition. I am very excited and ready for this journey.”
Mosupyoe said he was looking forward to attending the charity events where he will be getting a chance to speak to young people about their challenges.

“I want to change the perception of young men that a beauty pageant is only for females. We were only four who entered the competition so I want to see a change in that. I also want to become a role model to other young men.”
Mathibedi encouraged the youth to be goal-orientated and focus on themselves.

“Never compare your abilities with someone else and always remember that whatever you are looking for is nowhere to be found but within yourself. After all life is a journey, not a race!”
