Foetus found in North

The foetus, first believed to be a newborn baby, was discovered in a plastic bag in The Orchards area.

A human foetus was found abandoned in bushes in extension 55, near The Orchards.

The grisly discovery was made on Sunday evening by locals in the area.

The foetus, first believed to be a newborn baby, was found in a plastic bag.

Akasia police spokesperson Constable Lindiwe Mdluli said police were investigating the matter.

“An inquest docket was opened at Akasia SAPS and is being investigated,” said Mdluli.

Police reminded that child abandonment is a criminal offence, and a person who abandons a child after birth may be charged and prosecuted.

Charges could include crimes such as concealment of birth and attempted murder.
