Mayor part of east clean-up campaign

“The goal of the campaign is to inspire communities and businesses to take charge of their natural environment.”

Tshwane mayor Randall Williams led the Tswelopele clean-up campaign in Moreleta Park over the weekend.

He was joined by members of the community, local councillors, members of the mayoral committee and AfriForum.

“The Tswelopele clean-up campaign is a mayoral initiative with the focus to encourage volunteerism and to instil a sense of pride in our neighbourhoods and the environment,” Williams said.

“The goal of the campaign is to inspire communities and businesses to take charge of their natural environment,” he said.

“It also encourages participants to focus on separating waste at the source, thus enabling recycling initiatives and reducing the amount of waste that goes to landfills, which reduces carbon emissions from waste.

“As the city, we truly value the partnerships we were able to form with communities in the bid to look after their neighbourhoods.”

Williams said the team were able to remove numerous posters and collect rubbish and litter.

“I want to thank all the local residents who came out and joined us over the weekend, every little effort makes a difference.

“These acts of goodwill reinforce our belief that by forming partnerships we are able to have a significant positive impact in our communities,” he said.
