Escaped Rietvlei cheetah still on the loose

"The search was stopped at 22:00 on Wednesday."

Njozi the cheetah from Rietvlei Nature Reserve, which escaped on Tuesday, was last spotted between the reserve, Moonlight Road and the R21 on Wednesday evening.

There are rumours going around that she has been found, however, the nature reserve confirmed she has not been found.

The functional head of the reserve, Natalie Vos said that rangers, helicopters and veterinary services have been looking for her since Tuesday.

“The search was stopped at 22:00 on Wednesday and already continued by Thursday morning,” she said.

The two-year-old cheetah climbed underneath the fence via a porcupine hole of the reserve.

“We believe the battery of the collar around her neck might be low and that makes our search very challenging.

“The area where she was last seen, is very overgrown.

“Since she was released into the greater part of the reserve in September, it was pure luck if visitors got a glimpse of her as she is a very shy cat,” said Vos.

Vos urged people who might have spotted her, to inform the reserve immediately and should not try to approach her.

If anyone knows of her whereabouts, they can contact Vos on 082-891-2081.
