Two nabbed over illegal firearms

"The suspects tried to bribe metro police officers and were arrested on the spot."

Two people were arrested for possession of unlicensed firearms during routine work by Tshwane metro police officers in the Olievenhoutbosch area on Thursday.

Spokesperson Senior Superintendent Isaac Mahamba said the officers spotted a suspicious white Chevrolet and tried to stop it.

“The driver of the vehicle sped off and a chase ensued. They managed to stop the vehicle with two men inside,” he said.

Both suspects were found carrying unlicensed firearms when they were searched.

“The suspects tried to bribe the officers and were arrested on the spot,” Mahamba said.

Three cellphones believed to have been stolen were also recovered.

“The men arrested for possession of unlicensed firearms, bribery and possession of suspected stolen items.”

Earlier in the day, two metro police officers recovered a stolen white Hyundai light delivery truck that was hidden at the Olievenhoutbosch sports grounds.

No suspects were found at the scene.
