Local organisation soup kitchen keeps elderly people warm
The members of Msfab Events wake up as early as 04:00 to start preparing the warm soup for elderly people.
A local organisation has become a beacon of hope for the elderly who have to stand in long queues waiting for their social grant money in Mamelodi.
This after members of Msfab Events decided to keep the senior citizens warm this winter by providing them with soup.
Boitumelo Nkosi of Msfab said the past weekend’s cold front prompted them to start the soup kitchen for the elderly.

“The weekend was so cold and we were complaining about the cold and we started thinking about senior citizens who wake up early in the morning every month, to collect their social grant money,” said Nkosi.
The Msfab Event members donated money out of their own pocket to buy bread and soup for elderly people queuing at Denlyn mall.
“We are a skills development non-profit organisation that teaches children of Mamelodi about hand work and also help out with other social issues,” said Nkosi.
“All we want this winter is for our less fortunate elderly not to freeze in the cold weather while waiting for their money.”

The organisation was formed two years ago, with the aim of helping boys and girls with sanitary towels and toiletries as well as child-headed families with food parcels around Mamelodi.
Msfab Events raise funds by hosting aerobics sessions at weekends and participants donate by bringing a pack of sanitary pads, bath soap, deodorants, and other personal hygiene products.
“The soup kitchen will be run every month, based on the dates the elderly collect their grants,” said Nkosi.

“Nutritious meals will be served in a warm, safe and caring environment, free of charge, no questions asked, to anyone who comes seeking nourishment.”
Msfab Events fed more than 300 elderly people last week.
“We are appealing to the community to share their warmth with by helping with any donations for both the elderly, and local boys and girls.”
