Ga-Rankuwa man sentenced to 18 years’ imprisonment for rape

"When he committed the rape, he was out for two years on parole after he was sentenced to nine years for another rape."

The Pretoria North magistrate’s court sentenced Tshepo Frans Kekana (37) from Ga-Rankuwa to 18 years’ imprisonment last week Thursday for the rape of a 32-year-old woman.

NPA spokesperson, Lumka Mahanjana, said in February 2019 the woman was on her way to her boyfriend in the evening in Soshanguve, ext. 6, when she met Kekana who dragged her behind a church and raped her.

“The victim reported the incident to the police. In August 2019, while investigations were continuing, Kekana was arrested on another matter. His swabs were taken and his DNA matched those of the rape case in Soshanguve.”

Mahanjana said when Kekana committed the rape, he was out for two years on parole after he was sentenced to nine years for another rape.

“Kekana pleaded guilty to the rape of the 32-year-old victim and asked the court for a lenient sentence. The court ruled that a non-parole period of 12 years is set for this case.”

She said the NPA has welcomed the sentence.
