East family ‘sick with worry’ as dad with Alzheimer’s missing

The family suspects fraudsters are trying to cash in on their missing father.

A Pretoria east family has become increasingly concerned following the disappearance of their elderly father at the weekend.

According to the family, John Rodda went missing after going to a pharmacy in the Wilgers area, but did not return to the Wilgers Retirement Village on Saturday.

The 82-year-old suffers from Alzheimer’s.

“He was driving a white Nissan Tiida with registration CZ 25 YN GP,” Rodda’s son Mark told Rekord.

The vehicle, at some point on Saturday afternoon, was spotted turning into the direction of Mamelodi.

Rodda was understood to have been wearing a striped shirt at the time of his disappearance, without a jacket.

“People we believe to be fraudsters have tried to contact us to demand a ransom, saying he is with them, but police have confirmed this is not the case,” Mark said.

“We are sick with worry.”
