Elderly man flips tyre to help disadvantaged children
Elderly man embarked on a tough exercise to challenge businesses to donate at least a R100 each to help disadvantaged children have free access to surgical operations.
A 62-year-old man on Friday flipped an 85kg tyre for over 1.5km up Magalies Mountain in Wonderboom South.
Multi-world record holder in various activities, Chris Batts participated in the event to raise money to help disadvantaged children have free access to surgical operations.
The Magalies mile tyre flip event was referred to as a history-in-the-making event as Batts, performed it uphill.

“Today, I flipped up the hill for the first time,” Batts, who is also Sport Against Crime founder, told Rekord.
Upon completion, Batts said it was extremely tough.
“This mountain was a killer, I can feel it in my hands and my back,” he said, adding that it was hard work.
“I am challenging companies to donate a minimum of R100 each towards today’s effort.”
He said all the money generated would be handed over to Pediatric Care Africa, a non-profit organisation.
The organisation consists of paediatric medical officers, who perform free operations to disadvantaged children, he said.

According to Batts, the Magalies mile tyre flip was a follow-up event after he beat a new world record by doing 1 000 flips under two and a half hours at White River Crossing centre in Mpumalanga recently.
“ I clocked two hours and 23 minutes.”
Magalies mile tyre flip took place under the care and guidance of the Tshwane metro police offers, who monitored it until the end.
