Police arrest two after chase, shoot-out in north
Kammeldrift police and Soshanguve K9 unit arrested two armed men after high speed chase and shoot-out.
Two 40-year-old men were arrested after a high-speed car chase and shoot-out with the police on Moloto Road, in Kameeldrift next to Roodeplaat on Saturday, police said.
This after a Toyota RunX was reportedly hijacked in Mabopane a few minutes earlier.
According to police, Soshanguve K9 unit officers alerted them of a hijacked vehicle, which was driving towards the N1 highway.

“Kameeldrift police, who were driving along Zambezi Road, spotted the vehicle fitting the same description and followed it. The vehicle was joining R973 Moloto Road towards KwaMhlanga,” Sergeant Mavis Sindane said.
This happened after police had just passed under the N1 highway bridge.
“After following the vehicle for a short distance, the police ordered its driver to pull over but he refused and began driving at a high speed.”
A high-speed chase ensued and the suspects allegedly started firing at the police in an attempt to escape, Sindane said.
Sindaned said the police fired back, making it difficult for the suspects to getaway. “They eventually cornered and arrested them.
“During the arrest, two unlicensed firearms and 24 live rounds were found in their possession.

“No one was injured during the shoot-out.”
Sindane said the suspects were due to appear in the Cullinan magistrate’s court on Monday, facing charges of possession of a hijacked motor vehicle and possession of unlicensed firearms and live ammunition.
More charges were imminent.
